Caroline Sykes
BIO
Caroline Sykes is a lyric soprano based in Baltimore, Maryland, and currently serves as an administrative assistant at Annapolis Opera. She is passionate about performing for a variety of audiences and cherishes the deep connections that music fosters. Her repertoire spans from the impressionistic beauty of Claude Debussy to the contemporary brilliance of Libby Larsen, with a strong focus on traditional art song recitals. While she has a deep appreciation for the intimacy of art song, she also brings a fiery passion to larger works, including Bernstein’s A Julia De Burgos.
Throughout her academic career, Caroline was deeply involved in the music community. She was a member of multiple choirs, including the select chamber ensemble, The High Point University Chamber Singers, with whom she performed both nationally in Miami and New York and internationally in the United Kingdom and Scotland. In addition to her choral experiences, she served as the music director for High Point University’s co-ed a cappella group, The Offbeats, where she arranged seven pieces for their April 2023 album and was the featured vocal percussionist for both the album and live performances.
Caroline was also the winner of High Point University’s 2023 Concerto Competition, earning the opportunity to perform Aaron Copland’s Laurie’s Song from The Tender Land with a full orchestra. She was selected to participate in the Honor Collegiate Choir at the NCACDA Choral Conference and has continued her vocal studies at the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University, where she is pursuing her Master’s in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy. With a dedication to both artistry and service, Caroline is eager to continue sharing her passion for music with audiences and communities for years to come.
