BIO

Caroline Sykes is a lyric soprano located in Baltimore, Maryland. She loves to perform for a variety of audiences and loves when she can connect with them on a deeper level through the music. She performs a wide variety of music from Claude Debussy to Libby Larsen and everything in between. She has focused on performing traditional art song recitals and has found a love for this nook of classical music. While having this passion for art song and the tenderness they hold, it does not stop her from approaching big arias, including Bernstein’s A Julia De Burgos with a passion, fire, and flare that makes her unique.

Throughout her schooling, she was an active member of the music departments and a member of multiple choirs, including her undergraduate select chamber choir ensemble, The High Point University Chamber Singers. She has travelled nationally to Miami and New York, and internationally, to the United Kingdom and Scotland with these choirs as both a member and featured soloist. When she wasn’t participating and sharing her love for choir, she was also the music director for the campus’ only co-ed a cappella group the High Point University Offbeats. Caroline and The Offbeats released an album in April 2023 where 7 of Caroline’s arrangements were featured. Caroline was also the featured vocal percussionist on this album as well as all live performances for the group during her time as a member.

Caroline was also the winner of High Point University’s 2023 Concerto Competition, where she competed against other members of the music department for the opportunity to sing with a full orchestra. She performed Aaron Copland’s Laurie’s Song from his opera A Tender Land. She was also selected to participate in the Honor Collegiate Choir at NCACDA Choral Conference. She has received her BA Degree in Music for Voice from High Point University and is currently pursuing her Masters Degree in Music for Vocal Performance and Pedagogy at the Peabody Institute at The Johns Hopkins University. She hopes to continue to share her passion for music and serving others for many years to come!
